We’re an independent, multi-award-winning butcher and bottle shop in Heaton, Newcastle, bringing together proper butchery, brilliant produce and a love of good food and drink.

From beautifully aged steaks and free-range meat to craft beers and natural wines, we are here for people who care about what they eat and drink. Whether you’re planning a Sunday roast, firing up the barbecue or looking for something new to try, there’s plenty to discover.

We believe great food starts with knowing where it comes from, taking the time to do things properly and getting the very best out of every ingredient.

Proper butchery, from the ground up

Good meat starts with good farming. We work with trusted farmers, abattoirs and suppliers to source quality British produce, championing free-range, grass-fed and well-reared meat with an emphasis on animal welfare, traceability and flavour.

Our beef is dry-aged for a minimum of 30 days, while our pork and lamb are given time to develop their flavour too. We make our own sausages, burgers and bacon, and believe in making the most of the whole animal.

Not sure what to choose? Our butchers are always happy to share their knowledge, whether you need help choosing a cut or a few tips on how to cook it.

And then there’s the bottle shop…

Great food deserves great drinks. Alongside the meat, you’ll find a carefully chosen range of craft beers from some of the UK’s best breweries and natural wines from winemakers around the world.

We love discovering new things, championing independent producers and stocking bottles you might not find everywhere else. Pick up a steak and a beer to go with it, find a bottle for the weekend or put together something special for friends and family.

Our roots are in the North East

Block & Bottle began in 2017 in the railway arches in Gateshead, with a simple idea: bring a proper butcher’s shop and an independent bottle shop together under one roof.

Built on good produce, traditional skills, excellent customer service and independent thinking, we moved to Heaton in Newcastle in 2020. Since then, we’ve continued to develop our range, create our own products and build relationships with customers, producers and fellow independent businesses.

We’re proud of the recognition we’ve received from across the food and drink industry, but just as proud to be part of Heaton’s independent high street and the wider North East food scene.
